stone

walls, steps & terraces

stone gives a landscape its structure — and its permanence.

We build walls, steps, terraces and stone features that feel grounded in the land and true to the language of coastal New England.

what we mean by stone

Granite treads set into the grade between fieldstone walls and plantings, built by O'Connor Design Build

Granite treads set into the grade rather than on top of it, with the planting allowed to close in from both sides.

New England stone

Fieldstone, granite and ledge, laid the way the island’s old walls were, so new work reads as if it has always been there.

stone that holds the land

Walls and steps carry the grade, protect mature roots and give the planting something lasting to grow against.

Walls were Tom’s first trade. The studio that draws the landscape also sets the stone, so the details that matter are decided by the people who drew them.

the bones of the landscape

Walls, steps and terraces set the lines; trees, hedges and groundcovers soften them, and the place settles.
