questions people ask

Why do you only build gunite pools?

Gunite is concrete sprayed over steel, so the pool can be any shape and depth and it is a permanent structure. In a New England freeze-thaw climate it outlasts vinyl and fiberglass, and it can be finished in pebble, tile and stone that suit the house.

What does a gunite pool cost in Rhode Island?

Every property is different, so we price from a design rather than a list. A well-built gunite pool with a quality finish and equipment is a six-figure project; add a spa, terraces, walls, lighting and planting and most of our pools land in the mid six figures all in. The terraces and landscape around the pool are often as large a line as the pool itself.

How long does it take to build a pool?

Design takes six to ten weeks, permits three to eight weeks for a straightforward lot and longer with a CRMC review, and construction roughly three to five months from excavation to swimming. Most of our clients sign in the fall or winter and swim the following summer.

Do you handle permits and CRMC?

Yes. We prepare the drawings, file the applications and handle CRMC or wetlands filings where they apply, and we coordinate with the town and the reviewers as needed to see it through.

Do you design the landscape around the pool as well?

Always. The pool, spa, terraces, walls, pool house, planting, lighting and drainage are one plan and one contract, drawn and built by the same studio, which is nearly always less expensive and better resolved than two separate projects.

Do you service pools you did not build?

Yes. Our pool service division cares for the pools we build, and others, on Aquidneck Island and in Jamestown, Little Compton and Tiverton: spring openings and fall closings, winter safety covers, water chemistry and startup for new finishes, salt systems, heaters and automation, and a watchful eye over the winter for owners who are away.
